1. The ceremony is TOO LONG. I wanted to type this up last night but it was almost midnight by the time that sumb*tch was over. But I suppose everyone has that complaint every year.
2. In general, the fashion was quite underwhelming. Nobody blew me away, although I did like the gowns worn by Marion Cotillard, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Alba.
3. Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Garner are tied as my winners for best hair and makeup.
4. I know many people have said this already but WHY was Miley Cyrus there? I felt that it made a mockery of what the awards stand for if they'll let in any vapid teenager who just happens to have a blockbuster film. She did look nice, though, except her stupid pout and her speaking voice make me want to punch someone.
5. John Stewart did a good job with what he was given. I giggled at the "Periscopes and Binoculars" montage and guffawed at the "Bad Dreams" montage. And I loved how he called the Oscars "make up sex" after the writer's strike.
6. I said it last night and I'll say it again: I like Ryan Seacrest. I think he does a good job at keeping his cool and interacting with the stars, and he made me laugh several times last night. Speaking of which...
7. Gary Busey. What a freakazoid. Although I think the funniest part of that fiasco was that Jennifer Garner obviously had NO idea who he even was!
8. Every year, there is at least one award that I take personally and get very upset if the winner isn't who I want. This year, there were two: Best Original Song and Best Original Screenplay. And I am thrilled that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won the former and that Diablo Cody won the later. Yay!
9. Speaking of Diablo Cody, I thought she looked adorable last night. But anyone else in that getup would've looked ridiculous. It just suited her very well.
10. I don't think Cameron Diaz is particularly talented, or even particularly attractive, but I like her as a person, and last night was an example why. After stumbling over the word "cinematography" while presenting, she made a joke out of it instead of getting embarrassed or angry and she came off as gracious and funny. Go, Cam!
11. Someone get Katherine Heigl a Xanax. She looked terrified up there. Also, I hated her hairdo, although her dress was lovely.
12. Just because John Travolta used to dance in a lot of his movies doesn't mean he should get to waltz onto the stage to present.
And seriously, he looks like he's got more Botox in him than Nicole Kidman.
13. I mentioned this last night but Harrison Ford looked either drunk or sick or just really, really old. That makes me sad. He used to be SO sexy.
14. Speaking of sexy, two words: Javier Bardem.
15. Two more: James McAvoy
16.
Sorry 'bout that.
17. Where was Ben Affleck? His wife's movie was nominated for Best Picture and his little bro was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Maybe if he'd been there, he could've protected Jen from Busey.
18. Also, where was Michael Cera? He was part of what made Juno so awesome. Plus, his Superbad peeps were there, too.
19. And where was Keira Knightley? Atonement was nominated for a shizzload. I always enjoy seeing what she'll come up with on the red carpet.
20. Actually, it seems like there were a LOT of people missing. But I'm not going to list them all.
21. I'm so glad the Coen brothers won Best Director and Best Picture. Their canon of work is outstanding. And Frances McDormand, who I love, looked so cute out there in the audience, getting all emotional about her husband and brother-in-law winning.
22. Forest Whitaker lost a lot of weight. He looks good.
23. Sarah Larson looked totally out of place. As a matter of fact, she looked like what she is: a cocktail waitress who somehow got George Clooney to fall for her and whisk her away to the magical land of Hollywood.
24. I can't believe Jessica Alba is in her third trimester already.
25. Helen Mirren and Cate Blanchett are both amazingly beautiful. Stunning.
26. Major upset in the Supporting Actress award. Tilda was very good in Michael Clayton, so good for her! And although I'd have hated her gown on anyone else, it worked on her. She's got a very unique style and look, and it suited her well.
I've got to leave to go to work but I'm sure I'll add some more later.
What did you think?
Splendid
Ghibli
New Look
I recorded it so I could watch it today and fast forward over most of it. I love Jon Stewart and since I haven't seen any of the movies nominated, I watched just for him. It was nice to get a glimpse of George Clooney too. Sarah Larson looked really uncomfortable and nervous. Maybe Calista has aged Harrison because he looks as if he's put on 50 years since meeting her. He used to be so hot.
1Tilda looks like a wax figure to me. I dont 'know what skincare makeup she uses but it's weird, although she has perfect gorgeous skin and insanely gorgeous hair.
2James McAvoy has SO much character! Love him.
A lot of Jon's jokes made me wince a little although I thought they were mostly pretty funny. He made fun of people there so much.
Marion Cotiilard is SO sexy and beautiful. Love her.
Ryan S. was hilarious and Gary Busey- that episode was so wierd! LOL.
I loved when he interviewed Jessica Alba, though, and asked how far along she was and she had to think for a few seconds like she couldn't remember, then was like "third trimester!!!" It seemed like such a dumb moment. I loved her dress though.
Anne Hathaway redeemed hersef last night. She looked fantabulous.
3Agreed. Anne's dress last year was just awful.
4I don't generally like to criticize clothes worn at the Oscars, but Tilda Swinton's dress was terrible. It looked like a sack. And not a nice one. To cut her some slack, I did read somewhere that she had never actually seen an Oscar broadcast before.
I, too, am so glad that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won for Falling Slowly. Once is a wonderful movie. I was worried that one of the Disney-esque Menken songs was going to win. Kristin Chenoweth sounded great, though.
5Marketa Irglova and Coen Brothers' speeches were sweet!
I loved that they brought Marketa back out for her moment and that she shined in it!
6I ♥ Jon Stewart! My favorite part of the whole show, and I put this on JessNess's Oscar thoughts blog, was when he brought Marketa back out to do her speech after they cut her off. Good for you, Jon!
And whether or not Miley Cyrus should have been there, I loved her dress. I know it was very simple, but I think that's why I loved it. I also thought it was age appropriate. Although, if I find a similar enough dress, I'm wearing it to the ball next year when the guys get back.
Marion Cotillard's speech was so endearing. My friend made a comment when they were announcing the category that she thought she would win because it seems like when a beautiful woman makes herself uglier for the role, she wins the gold. (Charlize in Monster). I can't say that's always true, but it was a pretty interesting observation, anyway.
7It is kind of true. Charlize in Monster, Nicole Kidman in The Hours, Halle Berry in Monster's Ball, Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry, even Susan Sarandon in Dead Man Walking.
8Oops. Fugged up my stupid italics.
9Even Helen Mirren wasn't as beautiful in The Queen
10I agree with the ceremony being too long. And those montages annoyed me to no end. Jon Stewart did a great job and I was ecstatic when Javier Bardem won for best supporting actor and Marion Cotillard for best actress. I didn't see Away from Her with J.Christie but Marion was freaking outstanding as Edith Piaf.
11Helen Mirren presenting sounded so damn sexy, what a gorgeous woman!
Miley Cyrus, Cameron Diaz, and Katherine Heigl.... bleeechhh totally useless.
Tilda Swinton's speech made me laugh, and Harrison Ford did look like he'd just left his sarcophagus, poor guy looks ancient. Even Clint Eastwoon is older and looks better, btw where was he last night?
I loved loved love That's how you know from Enchanted, it should have won imo. How freaking adorable is Amy Adams?
Too many fillers this year - irrelevant half assed actors - I think it was because many A-Listers had already made plans assuming that the show would be canceled. Bummer.
George Clooney doesn't do it for me at all. His smirk bores me to deat, although he was good in Michael Clayton.
And that's all she said.

I agree with you on most points, Shi. But I am so, so glad that "Falling Slowly" won. The category is often dominated by either big names, or by Disney films. I'm really happy that two talented, independent musicians won with such a lovely, heartfelt song.
The scene in the movie where they perform the song is so awesome, too. I'll try to find it on YouTube.
13Here it is. I'd posted a video of the song before when I reviewed the movie, but this clip here actually shows him teaching her the song first. It's so cute and lovely.
14It was sweet. I have to see that movie too.

GARY BUSEY...what the?????? He is a loose cannon!!! So awkward...but I'm glad Whip finally said it b/c now I don't feel like such a dork for liking Ryan Seacrest. It's obvious that he does a lot of research beforehand and his interviews are rarely boring.
Overall, I thought it was a tame night for fashion. Jennifer Garner is my pick for best dressed female (that necklace!), and Nicole Kidman is a close second. I really, really, really hated Marion Cotillard's dress, but I like her, so that's a pass. Also, I liked Anne Hathaway's dress from last year a million times better than the one she wore last night.
16Yeah Marion Cotillard's dress was too mermaid-y for me too. But I was happy she won and her reaction was lovely.
17I like Keri Russell but I think that the color of her dress made her look washed out.

I HATED Jennifer Hudson's dress. It made her boobs into a shelf. I also didn't like Helen Mirren's dress. I think she's lovely, but the lace sleeves looked like she was wearing some kind of cardigan over her dress, and then the back of the dress had the extra part, like it was a long trench or something with a cardigan top. I just didn't like it. And I didn't like Marion Cotillard's dress, either. Especially the way the scaley design ended up with concentric circles around her nipple area. Cameron Diaz's dress was ok from the front, but from the side it looked like she needed a diaper change or something.
I wasn't impressed with the dresses for the most part. I liked Hilary Swank's dress and Anne Hathaway's was nice, but not great. Amy Adams' dress was a little too harsh for me along the neckline, but the rest of it was nice. The dress that Kristin Chenowith (sp?) performed in looked dingy... the color just didn't work for me. It seemed like a lot of the dresses had way too complicated and busy bottoms.
18My fave was actually Heidi Klum, she looked stunning and haute couture-y.

I liked Heidi Klum's, I thought Anne Hathaways was stunning with the rosette details and the color, liked Alba's, and liked Cotillards but I agree about the roses on her boobs. They were a little odd.
20Jennifer Garner's had amazing detail at the bottom. Cate Blanchetts was pretty nice. I got really tired of the red. Katherine Heigl is really trying to drive home the "I am an old fashioned movie glamour star". But she is very pretty.
Red, I agree about Katherine Heigl....her makeup was very drag-queenish...especially on her cheeks. Her dress was great, but I wanted it to be something other than red. Yeah...I was over the red very early on.
Also, I really disliked Amy Adam's hair. I think she's adorable, but that hairdo is so unflattering on almost everyone who wears it!
21I missed the whole thing! Is there somewhere I can watch it online now?
22I couldn't have said it better myself!
23Lately I am finding Katherine Heigl very irritating for some undetermined reason...
