I've never really been a fan of horror movies. It's not because I'm afraid of being scared, it's just that I'm not scared easily so I think that most horror movies are a waste of time. Some exceptions off the top of my head are: The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Ring, 28 Days Later, and this.

The 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead is a remake of the 1978 George Romero classic. I've never seen the original, so I can't compare, but I know that there are several differences. The zombies in Romero's version were slow-moving but the zombies (or "reanimates," as they're referred to) in the remake are strong, fast and violent (similar to the "infectants" in 28 Days Later). The remake has a larger cast than the original, which many purists complained caused a lack of character development but I didn't mind. The original took place in Pittsburgh where the remake takes place near Milwaukee.

A young nurse (Polley), a grizzled cop (Rhames), an electronic salesman (Weber) and several others take refuge in an abandoned shopping mall when an epidemic begins to turn everyone into flesh-eating, rage filled zombies. The plot is simple, really: a bunch of strangers escape violent zombies, hide in a mall (which the zombies surround), decide to escape, plan their escape, and attempt their escape.

No, it's not going to win any Oscars, but this is an intense, violent, funny, scary and mindblowing movie. If zombies ripping people's flesh off with their teeth or getting their heads getting blown off with a shotgun makes you queasy, stay away. This movie is GORY as all get-out.

But it's highly entertaining. I promise.
