Starring Embeth Davidtz, Alessandro Nivola, Amy Adams, Benjamin McKenzie

Junebug is the story of newlywed Madeline (Davidtz), a British diplomat's daughter, who travels from her Chicago art gallery to the rural hill country of North Carolina to pursue a local, self-taught painter. Madeline takes this road-trip opportunity to meet her husband George's (Nivola) family, who happen to live nearby.
George's judgmental, bitter mother, and his reserved, uncommunicative father are civil but not warm to Madeline.
George's younger brother Johnny ("The O.C.'s" McKenzie) who, although married, still lives at home, is sullen, resentful, and angry in general, and is aloof towards his new sister-in-law as well.
Only Johnny's very pregnant wife Ashley (Adams) who plans to name her baby "Junebug," is friendly towards Madeline. Actually, friendly is an understatement. Ashley finds Madeline fascinating and looks up to her immensely. She wants to know everything about her and is incredibly impressed with her. Her admiration of Madeline borders on childlike, but it's very sweet.
Junebug is a very charming little movie about family and culture shock. The high point, however, is Amy Adams' performance as Ashley (for which she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar). Adams is definitely the high point of this movie. She'll have you laughing and crying, and she'll win you over just like Ashley won over Madeline.

I love the cover for the movie
1Did you see the movie, Jess?
2no but I have heard of it and have been wanting to see it
3J and saw this when it first came to DVD, at the end we were like, WTF. Is that it?
I loved the performances and accents were so on the money, and the characters were great.
I agree that Amy Adams was GREAT and worth watching. I knew that girl in HS.
4You went to high school w/ Amy Adams? Or do you mean you knew a girl just like the character?
5Girls like the character...
6That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.
We didn't have girls like that in Jersey. There were plenty of pregnant chicks but none of them had that wide-eyed innocence.
7I don't necessarily mean the pregnant part, just the adoring, following type.
8I loved her character in this movie.
9Good Movie!!!! Amy Adams & Ben Mckenzie were great in it!
10I saw it, but don't fully remember my thoughts on it
... she was good in it.
11Oh I have been wanting to see this! Thanks for the review Whip!
12It takes place in Winston-Salem, right?
13I want to see this tough I get the feeling it would make the hubby insane.. looks good.
14Love love love love love this movie.
Love it when she's painting her fingernails and says, "It's Cinnamon Fizz......I suddenly have the urge to drink this."
