2007
Rated R
Written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright
Directed by Edgar Wright
Starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent and Timothy Dalton

Can you tell that all I did this weekend was watch movies?
Hot Fuzz is the story of Nicholas Angel (Pegg), a dedicated London police officer who is so good at being a cop that he makes the other officers on the force look bad. As a result, his chief sends Angel to the tiny, crime-free village of Sandford. In Sandford, Angel is partnered with Danny Butterman (Frost) a cheerful but incompetent officer who wanted to be a cop for two reasons: because his father (Broadbent) is the chief inspector, and because he is obsessed with cheesy Hollywood cop films.
Nothing really happens in Sandford, and Angel is bored and out of sorts. But when residents of Sandford start getting murdered and covered up as grisly accidents, Angel does his best to solve the crimes, while the rest of his fellow policemen think he's on a wild goose chase.
I'd heard that this movie was funny, and I expected a slapstick comedy. But there wasn't much slapstick... instead, there was a lot of violence. Funny violence, but pretty gory nonetheless. But even though it wasn't what I expected, it was still pretty hilarious. I laughed out loud throughout. The movie got more and more ridiculous as it went on and on, and the ending was frankly absurd. But still funny. The actors were hilarious (especially a mustachioed Timothy Dalton as a slimy local businessman) and the soundtrack kicked ass.
If you like British humor and aren't afraid of a little gore, check it out.

Normally, I love British humor. And there were parts of this movie that made us laugh out loud. But, honestly, we didn't even watch it all the way through. We thought it was ridiculous! And kind of boring at points.
And this was the point where we stopped taking movie recommendations from one of the hubbin's friends. He recommended this one and that one movie - Smoking Aces or something...?
- and we were not into either of them.
1I heard that Smoking Aces was HORRIBLE.
2It totally was! And I have nothing against the genre, I enjoy a good gangster movie as much as the next person. But, BLECH!
3a geek hated it.
4Looks like Buzz did too. The sad thing is that it had AWESOME people in it. And there were some great, hysterical characters. They would have had to change damn near everything they did, but it really could have been an incredible movie.
5OMG, I love this movie! I find the main character's dry quirks so funny and I like the bad british humor. The gore at the end was surprising but we watch this anytime we need a good laugh. And I love how they try to make themselves into Bad Boys after they watch it.
6I saw Smoking Aces on video and I don't even really remember it so it must not have been that great.
7I FREAKING LOVE this movie!! It was one of the first dates Micky & I went on
I thought the whole thing was hilarious. But I also think that Sean of the Dead is one of the funniest movies ever made :nergirl:
8sashak, I heard Sean of the Dead was really funny. We haven't seen that yet. I saw the rpeview and they look exactly the same in it, clothes and everything.

10Its ridiculously funny, I swear. The two guys are best buddies in it too!
11There was only one death in this movie that grossed me out- the one with the big rock. The rest of the movie had me laughing. I left the theater in pain, but still laughing. I also liked Smoking Aces.
12I loved this movie.. But yeah the violence was way over the top shocking in this.
And I totally love Shaun of the Dead (the scene with the record albumns KILL ME).
(looking through Shaun's LPs for suitable records to throw at two approaching zombies]
13Ed: 'Purple Rain'?
Shaun: No.
Ed: 'Sign o' the Times'?
Shaun: Definitely not.
Ed: The 'Batman' soundtrack?
Shaun: Throw it.
Ed: 'Dire Straits'?
Shaun: Throw it.
Ed: Ooh, 'Stone Roses'.
Shaun: Um, No.
Ed: 'Second Coming'.
Shaun: I like it!
Ed: Ahhh! 'Sade'.
Shaun: Yeah, but that's Liz's!
Ed: Yeah, but she did dump you.
Shaun: Oh!
Oh! I loved when that guy was trying to describe how the swan looked like...
"It's got a
long, slender neck..."
14To the Winchester!!
15My fav is when Danny is talking about the Juliet actress and when she got fingered in high school and Angel spits out his cranberry juice in shock.
16The swan scene was great, too.
Love Hot Fuzz! (and pretty much anything Simon Pegg does, I have the hugest crush on him)
17I'm pretty convinced that every tiny village in England has some sort of 'local' conspiracy (like the League of Gentlemen), for 'local people' with 'local issues'. That's why I stick to the cities.
lol @ the comments. I was watching Hot Fuzz this weekend!
I like both it and Shaun, but I enjoy British humour.
